holiday dresses

Two years ago I did a similar blog post and it was a big hit so I wanted to provide the same dress guide for this holiday season. We have a holiday party to attend each year and I am always wondering what I should wear. This year velvet is in and I am loving it! Don’t be scared to try something a little out of your comfort zone. How often do you get the chance to dress up? You might as well have some fun! Also, don’t feel like you need to wear close toed shoes just because it is December. Find a fun pair that will compliment your look regardless if it’s open or closed toed. Finish it off with a clutch or small crossbody bag and you are ready for a night of fun with your co-workers and/or signifcant other!

Last week I polled my Instagram audience on what blog posts they would like to see for the holiday season. By far a Men’s Gift Guide was the most requested post. I can’t say that I am surprised because I too struggle with gift ideas for Drew every birthday, anniversary and Christmas. I had him sit down with me to give me ideas on what men might want or need this holiday season. Some of these gifts are affiliated links and some are not. I feel that is important to mention because I want to put out great content regardless of whether I receive a commission or not. I don’t want you to miss out on nailing it in the gift department this year just for the sake of a few extra dollars for me. Now that that is out of the way, let’s get this started!

This was the talk of the town among my male neighbors recently. Apparently having a Yeti on wheels is a new design and function after being heavily requested by Yeti’s consumer base. If you have a man who loves Yeti, then this new cooler might just be for him!

Tried and true here at the Somplasky residence, this portable fire pit/stove comes highly recommended. Since moving to North Carolina we have used this a ton for Friday night fun with our neighbors. We sit it on the street and all sit around it keeping comfortably warm. I don’t know all the technical terms but there’s something with the air flow in this that prevents it from putting off alot of smoke but it still kicks off a lot of heat. We use it out on our back patio too and just love the ease and portability of this thing. They also have small camping ones for cooking and recently launched more products on their website.

I don’t know a ton about this one either other then it comes highly recommended by Drew. If your husband likes to carry a pocket knife then this one might just be the one for him. Drew prefers the smooth blade and matte finish.

Drew also owns this bag and has for almost 2 years. It is perfect for long weekends however Drew has packed a weeks worth of clothes in this thing. It has the same amount of space and capacity as a traditional carry on bag but Drew likes that this allows him to be hands free. It can be worn messenger or backpack style. He also likes that it can be folded up and stored away when you get to where ever your going.

I have heard wonderful things about this bag from fellow bloggers The Spoiled Home. The coolest feature is that this bag is fully waterproof and floats! If your man frequents the lake or beach each summer then this might just be the perfect cooler for hi

Like most of us women, men seem to love most Patagonia products. Drew has this Patagonia jacket already but he would like something a little lighter weight and less bulky. He liked a few from the Nordstrom website so I will list those here too!

Nano Puffer

Bomber Jacket (super stylish!)

Woolyester (dress this one up or down)

Full transparency here, Drew bought these for me for my birthday this past June so that I had a wireless pair for the gym. Since I haven’t stepped foot in the gym since June, he now uses them. He likes them a lot more then he thought he would since he used to wear the larger bose type headphones. He says these are actually easier all around. He also said this pair by is similar in concept.

These are pocket size flashlights that carry a big punch so to speak. Drew loves these but obviously they come with a heavy price tag. He says its the type of gift that most men would appreciate yet rarely would buy for themselves.

I am going to add products below along the way I see them but feel good about my initial list. Happy shopping everyone!

Made from old bourbon, whiskey and wine barrels these flags are a showstopper and talking piece for any home. We have this at our house and I it’s one of my favorites in the entire house.

Drew loves and swears by these jeans and chinos for men. He says they’re comfortable and provide the quad room that his legs need without a huge waistline to go with. If your man struggles to find jeans that fit, these are worth checking out! I know they runs deals and promos so sign up for their emails and see what they have coming up for the holiday season.

Hues of Blue Living Room Inspiration Board

When I polled my Instagram audience last week about wanting to see home decor inspiration boards on my blog, it was a definite yes!  It would be better if I had the appropriate photo-shopping software to edit my images BUT for now this will do.  I love the hues of blue used for this board.  You will come to notice that blue is one of the colors I often incorporate in my designs.  I also love distressed woods,  pops of metal metallics, subtle patterns and more neutral colors.  I have been pondering with the idea of creating an online interior design business.  One that is completely virtual since most of my connections and potential clients are outside of  NC currently.   You could hire me to create mood boards such as this, help you shop pieces for your space and even do in home one on one styling via a Facetime like app.  If this is something you would seriously consider, go ahead and send me an email.  Let's chat!

p.s. I'm looking for individuals who are ready to transform a room in their home to build up my portfolio meaning my initial rates would be considerably low :)

Neutral Dining Room Inspiration

Neutral Dining Room Inspiration

Since I can't get home to blog about my own home or wardrobe I'm just going to keep creating beautiful vision boards instead.   What I love about this design is it allows you lots of options for a wall paint color.  While I love the idea of keeping the space light and airy,  some might find this a bit too neutral.  If this is the case you incorporate color on the walls with paint,  add floral arrangements to the table and sideboard, or a statement painting to one of the walls.  I'm also  crushing on wallpaper and that's another great way to incorporate color into your space.  I must admit I'm a bit of a commitment phobe so I'd much rather dabble in the temporary kind that can easily be removed and lasts up to 2 years.  I was way too excited when I found this seagrass texture option!  I'd make one wall an accent wall with the paper or if you have wainscoting in your dining room I'd line the upper half with the paper.  Keeping the window treatments light and bright with whites will also make your space feel larger while adding interest.  Top if off with the perfect accent rug that will be spill and food friendly.

p.s. I am majorly in love this sideboard/buffet but I have no place for it in my current home.
